Hello Barbara, thanks for that. I can understand when you say, for your daughters sake, it is something like that that drives us to improve ourselves. My youngest sister is 51 and her husband of 32 years may have to give up work because of ill health and she says she will have to get a job. she hasn't done any paid work for 19 years because of becomming mother to 3 adopted children. She says that what can she do and I said that she has life and people skills and not to think of herself as useless, she is very down at the moment. It will be very difficult for her to become confident. I will try to help her look into your suggestions. Thanks. Glenys.

Barbara - YOU are inspirational! Jean -I've got no co-ordination but maybe after a fair few glasses of red wine I could convince you and myself that I'm a "natural" too! You never know until you give it a go - i actually did pole dance just the once at the end of a wild hen night out in Bristol! I think I managed just one twirl - it's not an easy skill to acquire. I think I'd maybe better leave it to the experts!

Melly - Open university definitely worth checking out - they will assess you and any equipment they provide is yours to keep after the course. Jean, i wonder if they do pole dancing diplomas?

Hello All
I just wanted to say how impressed I am by all of you. Despite the horrible monster of RA you are all thinking positive and about your futures. I work full time and for the last 12 months have struggled through each day and collapsed into bed at night. My Husband is a diamond and does everything for me in the house. I was getting to the stage where my whole life revolved around work and bed. Two months ago I started to make my own cards with Christmas coming up and I have found such joy in having something else in my life and learning new things. It definitely takes your mind off the pain so, for those of you thinking about adding something different to your lives, you wiil I am sure have a therapy which drugs cannot match.
Happy Christmas and a peaceful and hopefully pain free New Year to you all
Jackie xx

Well done Mel, but be warned once you start getting the old ticker going you'll be surprised what you'll find and you'll soon become addicted to the process of learning.

I'm glad it went well today Mel. Do you have to go far ? are the sessions very long. I tried to take part in a course for work but I couldn't manage to stay because it was too painful to be in the class room. I was very upset about it. Glenys.

Hi Glenys,
Really sorry to hear that you had to leave a course and by the sounds of things were not provided with support, but please don't let this put you off. All colleges should have a welfare rights advisor and a student counsellor to, help, advise and support disabled students who have needs to attend courses. It might be worthwhile have a chat with an advisor to see if they can assist/advise.
Love,

Hello Barbara, I work for Derbyshire County Council and they do provide support if asked. I started the course in July, Its an NVQ in team building, I though it would be helpful to me, there are only five classroom sessions of three hours. I had key hole surgery on my right shoulder during the school holidays and I am off work recovering,( it is not going well ) and asked if I could attend the classroom sessions and they agreed. The problem was that I wasn't as strong as I thought and Fibromyalgia as well as the RA was just too much. You know what it's like thinking we can carry on as if there is nothing wrong and then being upset because we can't. Anyway I have hung up my superwoman cape for now. I think I can go back to it when I get back to work. I've been off for over four months now and they provide support, I must learn to ask. Thanks for your concern. Glenys.

Hello Mel,do you know I'm not very good with all this technology, I would never have though of a course on line, thats great isn't it. If things do not improve for me it's something else to look in to it's very useful to gather all this information, thanks. Glenys.

Hi Glenys,
I do understand how difficult it can be, I also work for local government and have been off sick for what seem like ages, and want to go back to work and finish my course, but can't at the moment. I've had problems with various treatments that have affected my liver and now waiting to start the next one. In the meantime, the pain and fatigue have continued.
It sounds to me like you have been through a lot and need time to recover from your surgery before resuming your course again, and agree for the time being it's a good idea to hang up the super woman cape.
Take Care,
love,
Barbara XXXXXX
